Microsoft excluded the manufacturer of mobile devices HTC from the list of companies that could produce ARM based tablets running on Windows 8. This news reported by Bloomberg citing anonymous sources. Low sales of HTC mobile devices and lack of experience on manufacturing of tablets influenced such decision of Microsoft. Currently HTC produce tablets running on Android:  HTC Flyer, HTC Jetstream and HTC EVO. According to other sources HTC was expecting to release Windows 8 tablet with a modified “home screen”. Looks like Microsoft did not like such idea. Microsoft traditionally does not support any changes to the interface of Windows operating system.

However HTC still has a chance to become one of the manufacturers of mobile devices running on Windows 8 but in year 2013.  The “first wave” of tablets running on Windows 8 should be released at the end of 2012. There are 4 editions of Windows 8 expected. One of them Windows 8 RT will run on tablets and will be available bundled with the device only.
