Amazon introduced a new line of Amazon Kindle Fire HD tablets with screen sizes 7 and 8.9 inches.
7-inch Kindle Fire HD comes with 1280×800 pixels display, 1.2 GHz dual-core processor with a graphics core Imagination PowerVR 3D and front camera for video calls. The device may operate on battery power up to 11 hours. 7-inch Kindle Fire HD comes in two versions. First version with 16GB of internal memory should be available on September 14. Sales of second version with 32GB of internal memory should start on October 25th. Prices on 7-inch models of Kindle Fire HD are $199 and $249 respectively.
8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD tablet has HD display with resolution of 1920 by 1200 pixels and powered by High performance 1.5Ghz dual-core processor with Imagination PowerVR 3D graphics core. There are couple of new features that make 8.9-inch Kindle Fire unique – Stunning HD display, exclusive Dolby audio, fastest Wi-Fi and support of ultra-fast 4G LTE wireless. The price of 16-gigabyte version of Wi-Fi version of the tablet is as low as $299 and the price of 32GB version is $369. Price tags for 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD with integrated 4G and 32 or 64 GB of internal memory are $499 and $599 respectively. 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD will be available for purchasing starting from November 20th.
Amazon claims that all Kindle Fire HD are equipped with the fastest Wi-Fi module. According to the company, two built-in antennas could provide download speeds of up to 40 percent higher than the nearest competitor – newest Apple iPad 3 tablet.
At the same time with the release of Kindle Fire HD Amazon has improved the performance and reduced the price of the original Kindle Fire model presented in September 2011. According to Amazon performance of original Kindle Fire increased on up to 40 percent, amount of internal memory has been doubled and the battery capacity has been improved. In addition the price of the device has been reduced from $199 to $159. Sales of updated Kindle Fire start on September 14.
According to the Amazon press release the company has sold all stocks of Kindle Fire tablets. They are not available any longer. Amazon did not specify whether Kindle Fire will be back on the market, but said that there are exciting plans for the future. Most likely details on Amazon’s plan will be announced on coming presentation scheduled for September 6th. First model of Kindle Fire tablet was introduced in September 2011. 7-inch tablet was powered by dual core processor and equipped by eight gigabytes of memory. However first model of Kindle Fire did not have GPS, built-in camera and did not support cellular networks. Kindle Fire has gained popularity due to the low price of $ 199 and convenient access to large stock of Amazon digital content.
Amazon claims that in August 2012 Kindle Fire took 22 percent of the U.S. tablet market. According to the company Kindle Fire was the most successful product in Amazons history.
