Amazon is developing next generation Kindle Fire 2 tablet in response to recent introduction of Google Nexus 7 tablet.
A few weeks ago Google introduced its first tablet – Google Nexus 7. Google Nexus 7 tablet features modern powerful components and latest Android operating system. In addition the tablet has an attractive price tag of $200. Google Nexus 7 tablet become one of the main competitors of popular low-cost Android-devices Amazon Kindle Fire and Barnes & Noble Nook.
Amazon Kindle Fire was introduced at the end of 2011 and quickly become popular due to the attractive design, convenient user interface and giant collection of digital content by Amazon. Since then Amazon is developing next generation of Kindle Fire tablets.
Some analysts believe that Amazon developing three new 7-inch Kindle Fire models and one model with 8.9-inch display. Such information based on the analysis of supply chain of components required for assembling the next generation of Kindle Fire.
Based on the analysis the following models are expected:
- 7-inch Kindle Fire 2 with the screen resolution of 1024×600 pixels and no camera. Release and manufacturing of this model expected in August;
- 7-inch Kindle Fire 2 with the screen resolution of 1280×800 pixels and built-in camera. Release and manufacturing of this model expected in August;
- 7-inch Kindle Fire 2 with the screen resolution of 1280×800 pixels, built-in camera and 4G support. Release and manufacturing of this model expected in August;
- 8.9-inch Kindle Fire 2 with the screen resolution of 1920×1200 pixels. Release and manufacturing of this model expected at the end of 2012.
According to above mentioned expectations Amazon Kindle Fire will remain the main competitor of Google Nexus 7 on 7-inch tablet market. Another powerful player Apple iPad mini may come later in October 2012.
If provided technical details are accurate then some models of Kindle Fire 2 may attract customers with 4G support and better resolution of 8.9-inch display. Amazon Kindle Fire 2 7-inch models display density expected to be 216 PPI – the same as Google Nexus 7 tablet has. Such resolution is quite competitive with the latest iPad 264 PPI. The current generation of Kindle Fire has a value 170 PPI.
Currently there is no information about what processors will be used in next generation of Kindle Fire. The most analysts say that it could be either Texas Instruments OMAP or 4-core NVIDIA Tegra 3.
