Microsoft first tablet Surface: Intel Ivy Bridge processor, 10.6-inch ClearType Full HD 1920 × 1080 pixels display, Windows 8 Professional, well designed protective cover that also acts as an ultra-thin keyboard - all of these features design for competition with the new Apple iPad 3.

Yesterday in Los Angeles Microsoft introduced its first tablet PC Surface designed to compete with new Apple iPad 3 as well as with a number of Android based tablets such as Amazon Kindle Fire and Samsung Galaxy Tab. One of the main and unique features of the first Microsoft tablet is well designed protective cover with a back support that allows the tablet to stand upright. At the same time the cover also acts as an ultra-thin keyboard available in a variety of colors.
Another expected feature of the Microsoft Surface tablet is full compatibility of the device with all Windows business applications including Microsoft office. By releasing their own tablet Microsoft not only start competition with Apple but also promote coming Windows 8 operating system designed to run on variety of devices.
There were two versions of Surface introduced to the public. The first version of the tablet is powered by ARM processor and runs on Windows RT – special version of Windows 8 operating system for ARM processors. The other tablet powered by third-generation Intel Ivy Bridge processor and runs on Windows 8 Professional.
The first model of Surface will be available simultaneously with the official launch of Windows 8 operating system expected at the end of 2012. The second model will follow in 90 days. The price tags on devices were not disclosed but promised to be competitive.
The most experts believe that the new Microsoft tablet should cost no more than the new Apple iPad 3 model in order to be competitive.
Microsoft Surface ARM tablet comes with 10.6 inch display. 32 or 64 GB of flash memory and has a weighs of 676 grams and a thickness of 9.3 millimeter.
Intel based Microsoft Surface comes with 10.6-inch ClearType Full HD 1920 × 1080 pixels display, front and rear cameras, 64 or 128 GB of flash memory, MicroSDXC, USB 3.0 and Mini DisplayPort interfaces. It is slightly heavier than ARM model, has a weighs of 903 grams and a thickness of 13.5 millimeters.
For comparison Apple new iPad 3 comes with 9.7-inch Retina display, has a weighs of 652-662 grams and a thickness of 9.4 mm.
