Last week, the social network Facebook announced an event on January 15. Internet resource TechCrunch citing their “sources familiar with the matter” says that Facebook is really working on its own branded phone and they will show it at the event on Tuesday. In general, the rumors about creating «Facebook Phone» have been around for many years starting from 2010 but Facebook has never released such product.
According to the latest rumors Facebook is developing its own “social phone” with HTC. It is pretty much clear that hardware development is going to be outsources by some of the major manufacturers of mobile phones. Facebook may concentrate on the software development of new mobile phone. There are three possible scenarios of such development:
- Facebook may choose Android and create only branded skin for Android. This will allow the operating system to work with hundreds of thousands of apps from Google Play and Amazon.
- Facebook may choose WebOS developed by HP. The platform is not very popular, but very nice, complete and productive. In addition HP has recently decided to open the source code of WebOS.
- Facebook may choose to develop its own operating system from scratch. Such scenario is less likely because require a lot of development resources and does not warranty the success. Yes it can be, though it is very unlikely.
